The Navel Jelly Rust-Oleum Bowling Pin Match

Gentle Shooters,

Some of you showed up ready to pick up where you left off last December. Others of us had a bit of rust to shake off. And not just in the shooting department. Match Director Art Schoner pointed out we forgot the service hours sign up sheet. He asks that all who worked set up or tear down to let him know at [email protected]. In addition, despite what you see in the results below, I declare Allen Moran the ultimate winner of the match. We had another administrative failure. One of our scorers omitted a time in minor for Allen and I’m sure if I had that he would have won it all.

I’d like to thank all 19 of the shooters who came out this month and shared their time and passion for shooting with us. I hope you enjoyed it as much I did. I look forward to seeing you all next month on  May 2nd for the next rendition of frustration via simple wooden reactive targets.

Steven

US Law Shield FREE Seminar on Virginia Firearm Law UPDATE

VIRGINIA FIREARMS LAW UPDATE SEMINAR

April 22nd, 6-8 PM, American Legion Post 280, 469 Battlefield Blvd, Chesapeake, VA

Proposed firearm legislation moving through the Virginia General Assembly could significantly affect what you can own, where you can carry, and how much it costs to exercise your rights. For lawful gun owners, staying informed is essential to avoid unintentional violations and to make confident decisions about personal protection, travel, and training.

Whether you carry for self-defense, travel across state lines, hunt or simply want to remain compliant with changing laws, this seminar provides simple guidance on the current legislative landscape and what it could mean for you and your family.

The Virginia Firearms Law Update Seminar topics include:

  • Practical steps to remain compliant if laws change
  • Proposed restrictions on commonly owned firearms and magazine capacities
  • How grandfathering provisions work and when possession may still create legal risk
  • Concealed carry reciprocity changes and how they may limit where Virginians can carry out of state
  • Potential permit requirements that could require you to get training before you buy your next gun
  • Proposed firearm and ammunition taxes and their potential impact on affordability to own and train
  • Practical steps to remain compliant if laws change

Check in from 5:30 to 6:00.  Food will be sold to benefit the youth shooting program at the Legion!

Free Cyber Class – April 8th (this Wed)

ASC Family,
Just a couple days away and I am so excited to be your presenter for the Safe and Secure Online cyber-security presentation next week.
The presentation is completely free.  I am a proud member of the Airfield Shooting Club and an NRA Instructor.  In my day job, I am an IT Instructor for the US Navy.  I have worked in the IT and Cyber-Security field for over 40 years.  I hold the CISSP certification through ISC2 and that enables me to deliver this training.  Again, there is no charge, nothing to buy or anything like that.  Purely public service.  Ok, in the spirit of full disclosure I do get 1 hour of continuing education for being your host.  I am also available to provide this presentation online or in person for other groups so if you need a guest speaker just let me know. The presentation is geared towards adults, but there are other versions geared towards kids and college student age audiences.  The presentation takes about an hour and I will then take some questions.  If you have any questions in advance, please email me at [email protected] or you can reach me through Scott Sampson.

I look forward to seeing all of you next Wednesday evening.  It starts at 7 PM!

No Foolin’ It’s Pin Shooting Time again

Saturday, April fourth at nine o’ clock in the morning, at the regionally renowned Airfield Shooting Club Range in idyllic Wakefield, Virginia the 2026 ASC Bowling Pin Cup will kick off. Changes for 2026 include … not much. The same rules and description as last year are still available at our website.Your host for the shoot will be none other than Club President Art Schoner and a fat, grumpy, old pinhead. Any questions, bonk a pinhead at [email protected].

See you Saturday,

Steven

All Ranges Closed for 2 Days!

The contractor will be onsite Thursday and Friday.  All ranges will be closed as access to the range will also be limited.  Ranges will be open for regular activities Saturday morning

Berm Maintenance and Road Repair is Starting

It is critical to check the club calendar (Calendar – Airfield Shooting Club) before heading to the range this week.  Timberland Contracting will be on-site to work on the 50 and 100 berms, the shotgun fields, an old trap house, and finally upgrading the range road. Individual ranges may be closed or access to the entire range complex could be blocked. I’ll post additional information on the calendar as I receive it from Timberland.

4H Center Work Day

Here is a chance for service hours if you still need some(this workday is before the end of March so hours should apply to the current membership year), or if you want to help out the 4H center. From Bubba at the 4H Center, mulch will be spread so pitch forks and square point shovels will be needed. Loppers for cutting brush and a chainsaw or two would be nice as the center has a log splitter and they need some longer logs cut up. I am sure a good general cleanup will occur also so maybe a leaf blower or 2 would’nt hurt. I will not be at the work party and I am not sure if any board members will be there either. If you decide to show up please sign in and out at the center and let them know you are a ASC member, please write your member number down, as I am sure that Kathy will ensure that the club gets a list of  ASC volunteers.
