There are over 2.5 million of Sig Sauer’s P320 in service just in the US, making it very popular and trusted by many. Recently there has been more and more discussion centered around the potential for the platform experiencing an un-commanded discharge. With over 100 lawsuits in process against Sig Sauer, we are taking notice. The condition that seems to be occurring most, is an un-commanded discharge with the firearm in the holster. There are several videos out there that show some of this. Unfortunately, no smoking gun has been identified, other than somehow it appears that the trigger has been depressed at least a little before or after the gun is placed in the holster.
As it stands today, ICE, Customs, other law enforcement agencies and many premier training organizations such as Gunsite and others have stopped using or banned the Sig P320 from their events. This is due to the safety concerns associated with its use. No one knows for sure what issue is. We do not want to ban the firearm from club use; however, we do want to limit the liability exposure to the club. We have therefore instituted a new TEMPORARY rule which prohibits a loaded 320 in a holster on ASC property. You can still shoot it if you are not using a holster. Please see the new Range Rules document for clarification. Once a better understanding/solution has been achieved we will revisit the restriction. Again, this we hope is just TEMPORARY.
In the meantime, we want to share as much information as we have, to make sure our members are informed so they can make their own decisions about the use of the firearm outside of ASC.
- Sig Sauer issued a voluntary “upgrade” for the P320 back in 2017. You can see of your pistol is subject to the “upgrade” or not <here>
- Sig Sauer has a web site dedicated to the P320 issues. You can find it <here>
- VCDL wrote and editorial piece that has some great detail in its referenced links <here>
- CBS report on Gate Guard at USAA with video of gun going off. Link is <here>
- Class action law suit filed against Sig. Link is <here>
We hope this helps.
