Range Etiquette

Observations from the MO:

On a recent visit to the range for a little work and shooting, I noticed that we need to do better as members, this is good for the club and our members. When returning the target backers to the shed, please strip your used targets from the backer and dispose of them accordingly, this helps the next shooter that will use that backer and is also the courteous thing to do. The board has decided that a hi-viz belt may be used instead of using the hi-viz vest. These are required for identification of the RSO, 2 of the belts have been placed in the sign in shed for use. When returning them to the sign-in shed please hang those belts back up or place the vest on the shelf. The vest have been seen laying on the floor of the shed numerous times. When removing frames and laying them down, do this as gently as possible, dropping the target frames to the ground can damage or break the frames. If the trash can is overflowing please remove the bag and place another one in the trash can, bags are located in the sign in shed, if you are able, please take the bag to the dumpster. If you do this send an email to the MO with your member number and if possible a pic and you will be given service hours. Please do not stack boxes around the trash cans, take them or have someone take them to the dumpster. It is summertime and pop up thunderstorms are possible at any given time and these winds can blow loose trash and boxes around.

Also we need to remember some of our basic rules: when opening the range, all locks should be zeroed out after unlocking. Do not share codes with non members, if  members bring guests please unlock the bathrooms for the guest. If you are the last to leave the range, please check to make sure that the bathrooms have been locked up.

Update– Brenda has received multiple offers of assistance.  No further responses are required.  Thanks to all that have contacted her to help out. Our esteemed New Member Orientation (NEMO) Director, Brenda, has just had hand surgery and is now sporting s good sized cast on her hand.  She needs data on printed forms from people interested in joining the club to be entered into Excel.  If you have Excel and are interested in knocking out some of your service hours in the comfort of your own home, please contact Brenda at [email protected].  The forms will need to be picked up from her house in Zuni.

In need of AC tech

It seems the clubs building AC unit has taken a turn for the worst and I am being advised that the AC in the bathrooms and office is not working. Any club members that are AC techs that are willing to take a look at the unit please contact me, the MO or Art, the president. Thank you in advance. CoryAka the MO.

Carpentry Work Needed for 5 Stand

We need carpentry work done for the 5 stand shotgun project  See attached sketches for projects.  We need several people or a team to take over each project and complete it in the next two weeks.  Brenda Norton is in charge of the work, and she can meet you at the shotgun fields most any time to go over the work and get you started.  We have all of or most of the lumber and other items.  Just need your help and equipment to do this.  Saws, drills, impacts, or what equipment you think will be best to complete the tasks.  If we need any misc hardware I can pick it up or the team can and we can reimburse you.  I have a huge bucket or two of different sizes of screws. The weather is beautiful and this is a good way to get your service hours early this year.  Please email, text, or call Brenda Norton to get started on the project you want to do. Get a team together to take on a portion of this work. [email protected] or 757-641-5590 5 stand carpentry work needed

Berm Maintenance and Road Repair is Starting

It is critical to check the club calendar (Calendar – Airfield Shooting Club) before heading to the range this week.  Timberland Contracting will be on-site to work on the 50 and 100 berms, the shotgun fields, an old trap house, and finally upgrading the range road. Individual ranges may be closed or access to the entire range complex could be blocked. I’ll post additional information on the calendar as I receive it from Timberland.   Art Schoner ASC President
