Gentle Shooters,
This Saturday, May 2nd devoted pin shooters will be at the regionally renowned Airfield Shooting Club Range regardless of the weather. In the event of rain, we will be trying out bowling pin shaped steel targets. If it is dry, then we will hold a regular match. Either way, the festivities kick off promptly around 9ish. The rules for the regular match are posted on our handy web site www.airfieldshootingclub.org. We have no idea what kind of rules we will end up with for the steel. It will be fun. Bring lots of ammo. Questions or comments, ping a pinhead at [email protected].
See you at the range

Good afternoon,
The Governance Committee has spent some time trying to assess the rules for simplicity and clarity. We received some great feedback on suggestions of the rules and we appreciate that. We will say that we are done yet, but this is a good first start. We encourage you to read these rules! We are focusing on safety after we have had some recent issues. Please click on the Range Rules link on our web page!
Again please read these rules. If you have any questions please reach out to us and we will get an answer to you.
THANK YOU for helping to keep everyone safe!
Rimfire Challenge, A modified Long Gong Challenge
The 100 Yard Gong shooting event is uniquely designed to test and challenge your shooting skills. Join us on Sunday, April 19th, 2026, for a day of fun 22LR shooting. This event includes individual and two-person teams scoring each other’s hits and misses.
Participants will shoot up to 5 rounds of 10 shots each. Each round has a 3-minute time limit, which begins and ends on the match director’s commands/Range Safety Officer. The event is shot from a bench rest and is limited to bipods or front bags only. No front rest, sleds, or rear bags allowed.
Please transport all firearms to and from vehicles in a case. When the range is called “COLD,” actions will be open, with empty-chamber flags inserted. No gun or magazine handling AT ALL when the range is COLD. That includes scope adjustment or any other form of handling. There will be enough time during a HOT range to make any required adjustments.
This event is open to members and the public. Airfield Shooting Club requires all non-member participants to complete the Guest Waiver form. The cost is $5 for ASC Members and $10 for Non-Members. FOUL WEATHER will CANCEL this event.
Three gongs: a 3”, a 2”, and a 1” gong target will be placed at the 100-yard berm. The score is totaled for each shooter, with a possible high score of 27 points (1+2+3+3+3+3+3+3+3+3=27). A complete game includes five complete sets, totaling 50 rounds of ammunition (1 whole box). The highest possible score for a competition is 135 points. In case of a tie score, the winner is determined by the shooter with the highest single-round score.
All participants must attend the Safety Meeting to shoot! The range set-up/sighting-in period lasts until 8:30 AM, and then the range goes cold for the 8:30 AM Mandatory Safety Meeting/Instructions. The match starts at 9:00 a.m. and lasts until noon.

Gentle Shooters,
Some of you showed up ready to pick up where you left off last December. Others of us had a bit of rust to shake off. And not just in the shooting department. Match Director Art Schoner pointed out we forgot the service hours sign up sheet. He asks that all who worked set up or tear down to let him know at [email protected]. In addition, despite what you see in the results below, I declare Allen Moran the ultimate winner of the match. We had another administrative failure. One of our scorers omitted a time in minor for Allen and I’m sure if I had that he would have won it all.
I’d like to thank all 19 of the shooters who came out this month and shared their time and passion for shooting with us. I hope you enjoyed it as much I did. I look forward to seeing you all next month on May 2nd for the next rendition of frustration via simple wooden reactive targets.
Steven
