We are looking  for 6 volunteers to work the district shoot on June 21,
2025.
Hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Lunch will be provided.

The point of contact is Jim Manning [email protected]

Duties include escorting 2 shooters at a time to rotate through the
rimfire silhouette matches.

You may be asked to reset the silhouettes for the shooters.

After the silhouettes matches are over, we will clear the 50 yard range
and setup 3 position match.

During the smallbore 3 Position Match, we will need 2 or 3 volunteers to
clear the 100 meter range.
The other 3 volunteers will help with the 3 Position shooters.
When the 3 Position match is finished,  we will clear the 50 yard range
again.

At the end of the matches, we will restore the 50 yard range for general
use.

The June Edition of how the pins fall.

Gentle Shooters,

We are scheduled to shoot the match this Saturday, June 7 at the hopefully dry and beautiful ASC range. There is a slight chance of weather, but much like a golf course, it never rains at the range. In the unlikely event that we do expect unfavorable weather, we will post a cancellation here by 8PM Friday. While we are on the subject of cancellation, there will be no July match this year. All of your match directors are unavailable. Because of the highly unusual nature of this cancellation, we will allow practice in July. But remember, we shoot matches because there is no time to practice. Hat tip to Tom Tyrell, one of my old match mentors for that gem!

Hope for Dry and see everyone Saturday.

Steven

Rimfire Challenge, A New Long Gong Challenge

Rimfire Challenge, A New Long Gong Challenge

Rimfire Challenge – 100 Yard Gong shooting event is uniquely designed to test and challenge your shooting skills. Join us on Sunday, May 18th, 2025, for a day of fun 22LR shooting.  This event includes individual and two-person teams scoring each other’s hits and misses.

The participants will shoot up to 5 rounds of 10 shots per round. Each round has a time limit of 3 minutes that will begin and end on the match director’s commands.  The event is shot from a bench rest and is limited to bipods or front bags only.  No front rest, sleds, or rear bags allowed.

Please transport all firearms to and from vehicles in a case.   When the range is called “COLD,” actions will be open with empty chamber flags inserted.  No gun or magazine handling AT ALL when the range is COLD. That includes scope adjustment or any other form of handling. There will be enough time during a HOT range to make any required adjustments.  Eye and ear protection is required.

This event is open to members of the public.  Airfield Shooting Club requires that all non-member participants fill out the Guest Waiver form.  The cost is $5 for ASC Members and $10 for Non-Members.

Three gongs: a 3”, a 2”, and a 1” gong target will be placed at the 100-yard berm. The score is totaled for each shooter, with a possible high score of 27 points (1+2+3+3+3+3+3+3+3+3=27). A complete game has five complete sets for 50 rounds of ammunition (1 whole box). The highest possible score for a competition is 135 points. In case of a tie score, the winner is determined by the shooter with the highest single-round score.

All participants must attend the Safety Meeting to shoot!  The range set-up/sighting-in period lasts until 8:30 AM, and then the range goes cold for the 8:30 AM Mandatory Safety Meeting/Instructions. The match starts at 9:00 a.m. and lasts until noon.

All participants must attend the Safety Meeting to shoot!  *** The 100 Meter Range is Closed for this Event. *** For more information about this event, contact the Match Director, Tom Sanford, at [email protected].

The work on the 50-yard shelter is finally complete.  We now have a new secure roof with no holes in it.  The gutters and gutter guards are installed to help with erosion and keeping us dryer.  The gutters are also on the bathroom building.  Photo credits go to Brenda Norton.  🙂

Remember:  This work was supported by the 2025 Virginia Wildlife Grant Program through a partnership between the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources and the Wildlife Foundation of Virginia.

Work on the 5-Stand should start in the next week or so.
