This Saturday February 7th weather permitting another defensive shooting match set up 8:30 Shooter’s brief 9:00 a.m. to compete in the match you must attend the shooters brief

Entry fee is $5 for members $10 for non-members this includes one category each additional category afterwards will be $2 there is categories for all pistols, rifles, shotguns, and two gun pistol and rifle. If you wish to shoot shotgun category that is done last as it destroys the targets

This match we will be trying something new the 10 round limit on magazines for this match is lifted load to full capacity or whatever capacity you want but there are specific points in the stage where you have to reload and there’s still the same restriction on dropping a loaded mag on the ground that is a 3-second penalty if it’s empty kick it across the range I don’t care

The stages are attached in the PDF here DSM Stages 2-7-2026

March 7th Work Party

Calling all pin heads, range shooters and anyone that needs to make their service hours before renewals.

Saturday March 7th, weather permitting 9am until we are done 3 pm-ish, we will be having a large work party. We will be building pin tables, frames for the all the ranges and also working on the ballistic wall repair project(if we have enough personal). We need some members to make up new target backers and also doing general range cleanup. Tools needed would be general carpentry tools for building the frames and tables also some power tools would be nice to have. For frames and tables: portable table saw, chop saw ,screw guns and extension cords. For the ballistic wall also general carpentry tools:  impact drivers with deep sockets(I believe 3/4″) extension cords, hammers or mallets and a generator if it is easily transportable. We will be boring 1/2″ holes thru the wall and sistering 2x6s to each side and using carriage bolts to secure them. We have a couple 1/2 drills and 1/2 boring bits but feel free to bring some if you have them. We will also be doing general cleanup so blowers for the leaves and debris on the range, some rakes and maybe shovels and maybe a power washer to wash the concrete by the bathrooms(time permitting). I am sure Brenda will have a list of work to do at the shotgun range and for the new 5 stand. If we have the personal and equipment we will try to spin the sign in shed 90 degrees.

For lighter work we also have to prep the some target backers, heavy scissors for cutting duct tape and the punching holes in the backer and installing grommets. Hopefully some of our seasoned target backer makers will show up for leadership on this.

I may have a short notice small work party to bring the material down and place in one of the conex boxes on one of the prior Saturdays or Sunday. This would be just to unload wood off a trailer.

Please feel free to contact me if you have ant special equipment that we may be able to use.

If it rains Saturday we will try for Sunday March 8th but we will have a limited work party for pin tables and frames as the range will be in use by the swamp shooters starting at 2pm.

2026 NRA Director Nominee

Our very own Ken Bowra has been nominated for the upcoming NRA Board Elections.  I asked Ken to provide me with something to put out to the AASC membership on his thoughts and vision for the NRA:

As discussed, I am a candidate with the NRA 2.0 Reform Group.

https://electanewnra.com/

We believe the governing of the NRA should be based on integrity and transparency. We will continue to fight for the 2nd Amendment and bring the NRA back to its mission of creating and supporting shooting programs, competitive shooting, and furthering firearms safety and education.

Our goal is to bring the NRA back to the mission and core values that made it the great organization it once was.

The reform movement has gotten rid of everyone who was associated with past issues and put in place safeguards like financial transparency to stop it from happening again.

Bottom line: The reform movement within the NRA is committed to restoring financial transparency, fiscal accountability and getting the NRA refocused on its core mission of defending the 2nd Amendment of the Bill of Rights.

Rimfire Challenge – ARA Modified Benchrest 50-Yard Precision Skill Challenge

Experience the fun of a friendly ARA-modified bench-rest shooting event uniquely designed to test and challenge your shooting skills. Join us on Sunday, January 18th, 2026, for a day of fun 22LR shooting.

The shooters will follow a modified version of the ARA Benchrest Shooting Competition, shooting two to four official ARA 25 bull targets, depending on participation.  Each shooter has 20 minutes to complete each target, whether it’s a factory or unlimited target classification. The cost is $5 for ASC Members and $10 for Non-Members.  Please bring exact cash.

If the range that you are going to is COLD, you may only bring a gun to the line if it is cased.  A case is anything that prevents you from accessing the gun.  It must be in a range bag, a holster, a gun sock, a hard/soft-sided case, etc.  If the range is HOT, you may bring the gun to the line without a case, BUT it must be unloaded with the muzzle pointed straight up, action open, and facing out (so anyone can see).

All participants must attend the Safety Meeting to shoot!  The range set-up/sighting-in period lasts until 8:30 AM, and then the range goes cold for the 8:30 AM Mandatory Safety Meeting/Instructions. The match starts promptly at 9:00 a.m.

*** The 25 – 50 Meter Range is Closed for this Event. *** For more information about this event, contact the Match Director, Tom Sanford, at [email protected].

Tidewater Friends of NRA Banquet – Jan 31st

The Tidewater Friends of NRA Banquet is right around the corner!  The Friends of NRA is the Premier Fundraising Program of The NRA Foundation.  With 600+ fundraising events across the nation each year, Friends of NRA is invested in supporting the community of safe, responsible shooting sports enthusiasts. Net proceeds benefit The NRA Foundation and are distributed among State and national grants.

Friends of NRA fundraising events include exciting games, auctions, exclusive merchandise, and dinner alongside your freedom loving friends.  This year we are holding it at the Chesapeake Conference Center on Jan 31st from 5 to 9pm.  The money has helped the 4-H conference center and our swamp shooters.  The money typically is provided to other non-profits such as 4-H, Scouts, veteran’s programs, police departments, hunters for the hungry and even school security systems.

This is you chance to have some fun, maybe win a gun (or two) and help give back to the shooting sports.  You can purchase individual tickets for the night, or you can purchase different table levels for 8 people that come with a gun!

You can visit Tidewater – Chesapeake, VA | Friends of NRA to find out more details or purchase a ticket.

If you know someone that would donate items/services for our raffles and auctions, we can provide receipt for a tax write off!

Come on out and Join us!!!
