Airfield Shooting Club completed another successful 22LR rimfire bench rest match for June. The competition is fierce this year, going to be a tough year to find out who will be the top shooter. The rimfire match follows a modified American Rimfire Association rule format on the 50 yard line. Next match for this year is scheduled in July, If you haven’t had a chance to test your shooting skills, here’s your opportunity. See you at the 50 yard line! Reserve your bench early!
Volunteers for the 4-H Southeast District Shoot
We’ve got enough volunteers to help with the District Shoot. Thank
you very much to the club and to everyone who volunteered to help.

Volunteer Needed 6/24/23
4-H is asking ASC for some volunteer help with the 4-H Southeast
District Shoot. (Saturday, 24 June) They’ve asked for seven (7)
volunteers. Five of those volunteers will be helping with the rifle
firing line, which includes both the 50 Yard and 100 Meter ranges. Two
of the volunteers will be helping with the archery competitions.
The shooting is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. and will continue
until approximately 3 p.m. Volunteers should report at least 15 minutes
before the firing begins. They can check in with Jim Manning, who will
be on the rifle firing line.
I will act as a point of contact and I plan to accept the first 7
volunteers.

Defensive shooting match new category
At the next defensive match July 29th there will be a new category of two gun Rifle and Pistol this category will run the same stage footprint as the other categories but with altered round count and procedure to compete in this category a rifle sling is mandatory preferably a two-point sling, single point slings will have to be used in conjunction with a keeper of some sort to prevent the muzzle from pointing directly down at the shooter’s feet, for safety reasons transitioning from rifle to Pistol will only be possible after the magazine of the rifle has been removed if possible and the last round in the chamber has been fired so that it is known without a doubt that there is no life ammunition in the chamber rifles without detachable magazines will have to be fired until empty before transitioning

June Bowling Pin Match Results
Gentle Shooters,
I regret that I am traveling for work today. There was so much at the match to talk about. Perhaps there will be a Flyer article. I have to get on a plane now, and I made the executive decision that you would rather have scores than narrative.
The next match is July 1st.

We’re Back – The Excuse Free Bowling Pin Match June 3
Gentle Shooters,
Like you, I am giddy with anticipation for the first match of the painfully delayed 2023 Pin Shooting season. That pain resolves on June 3rd. There has never been an ASC match like the one we are going to hold. The Excuse Free match will begin at 9:30 AM in pastoral Wakefield Virginia at the newly renovated Airfield Shooting Club’s 50 meter shooting complex. Shooters can expect a completely flat, dry and level range with brand new flat tables, aligned in three dimensions to within mere centimeters of true. The pins for this match have been curated from some of the finest dumpsters in the 757. Your perfectly placed impacts will vigorously remove these pins from these tables with ease. Likewise, you have had two extra months of practice, so your match directors are expecting record scores. All previous excuses are declared null and void for this match. You have one week to think up new ones!
Rules have not changed for this year and can be found at https://airfieldshootingclub.org/bowling-pin-rules-and-information/ Specific questions may directed at our assistant adjunct Pinhead 3rd class at [email protected]. I’d be truly remiss if I didn’t say thanks to all of the club members that have shown up to help get the range back into shape. And a big shout out to our Maintenance Officer and my long time unindicted bowling pin co-conspirator Art Schoner for the man years of sweat equity it has taken to get the range back into shape.
See you Saturday
Steven
The SEC Says …
Today is 21 MAY 2023 and here are some important updates regarding club renewals and nominations for the upcoming Board of Directors elections.
RENEWALS:
Be advised that on 1 JUN a late fee will be applied to those members who have not paid their 2023-2024 club dues. In order to process your membership renewal, two things need to happen: 1) pay your dues, and 2) return a signed renewal form to me. If you have not received your membership card(s) in the mail yet, it is probably because one (or both) of those two things has not happened yet. Renewal forms went out on 30 MAR via email. If you don’t have a copy, check your SPAM/trash folder (some members have reported finding them there) or contact me ([email protected] or [email protected]) and I will send you a pdf copy of your form. Be sure to check the form over carefully and make any changes necessary directly on the form before signing it and sending it back to me. We were made aware that the program we used to generate the renewal forms produced some errors, specifically in the area of the NRA member # & EXP date. Again, make any changes necessary directly on the form, sign it and send it back to me. If you recently updated your NRA membership, be sure to send me a copy of your card (or label from an NRA magazine) to confirm the updated information.
NOMINATIONS for Board of Directors:
I apologize for the delay in getting this out, but pursuant to the current By-Laws, the club is now accepting nominations for the upcoming Board of Directors election to be conducted at the July meeting (15 JUL 2023) in the 4-H Conference Center banquet room. We are accepting nominations for all positions. Nominations will need to be presented to the Secretary ([email protected] or [email protected]) NLT 16 JUN 2023. Nominated members must be in good standing at the time of election. Spouses, significant others, close relatives and business partners cannot serve together on the board if they serve in a position that has control of the club’s funds (i.e. Treasurer, President, etc.). The term of office is 1 year. You can find position descriptions in the By-Laws. The current positions, with the current members filling the position (or “open” where no one is currently serving) are listed below:

Range Status and Much More— Make Sure Your Read
The Black Flags are Down! The work on both of the ranges is completed. The 50-yard and 100-meter ranges are open for normal operations. Thanks to a few very hard-working members we were able to complete the frame holders (PVC) at 15’, 20’.30’, 25,and 50-yard distances. Lane 10, in front of the south wall of the SRB is permanently closed and should never be used under any conditions. Lane 11, immediately to the right of 10, is restricted for use only during rimfire challenge matches.
The reconstruction of the SRB has allowed us to improve the capability of the range. One of the areas that we have improved is the leveling of the ground between the firing points and the berm. Because of this, we can use the same size frame for all distances. As a result, we will be adding more PVC pipe in the ground to accommodate different shooting standards. With the modifications we have changed the rules for the SRB, which only allowed shooting at certain distances to now allowing Target Frames to be placed anywhere there is PVC pipe in the ground.
With the SRB, you are reminded to pay special attention to where your round is going to end up in the berm. Please make sure that your targets are placed in a proper location on the backer to ensure your rounds impact in the lower half of the berm.
It’s that time of year and the combinations to the locks (gate, sign in shed, skeet, and trap) as well as the bathroom doors have all been updated. Use the combinations provided on your new membership card. If you submitted your renewal form and made your payment, but haven’t received your new membership card, contact the club secretary at [email protected]. Please don’t contact me, as I’m not in the loop as to anyone else’s renewal status.

May Rimfire Benchrest match has been Cancelled..
Please be advised that the May Rimfire Benchrest match has been Cancelled..
The range is still closed but very close to completion. With anticipated rain in the forecast for Sunday and with the work party nearing completion it was decided to cancel this month’s match. Be sure and thank all the team members that participated in the construction at the site. It looks awesome!
See you next month.
