ASC is hosting David Jenkins, founder of Rochester Personal Defense to put on Dave Spaulding’s Handgun Combatives Class.  Dave Spaulding retired and has only certified a few folks to continue teaching his course and Dave Jenkins is one of them.  I have known Dave Jenkins for several years and taken instructor classes with him as well as taken classes from him and can recommend Dave completely.

This class is something you won’t want to miss.

Enter Handgun Combatives Class in the payment description.  Your spot is not held until payment is made.  Refunds will only be considered until 1 August.  After that refunds will not be granted as we have to commit.

The cost is $450 for Members and $500 for non-members.  Sorry immediate family who are not members are not eligible for the member price.  To pay the $450 price you must enter a valid membership number.  If paying for two members put that in the Payment Notes.

Here is the class description:

This course takes the handgun from a sporting, plinking, or recreational implement, to a tool of combat- to be ready and willing to fight if avoidance and evasion fail. The purpose of this course is to build solid essential skills (grip, trigger control, body position, holster skills, reloads, malfunction clearances, etc.) and put them in the fight! Students will be trained to anchor and improve these essential skills under set time frames established in six (6) standards that will be shot during the course combining speed and combat accuracy.

This is not a course for the brand new shooter. You must have a good foundation of skills (grip, stance, sighting, trigger operation) and a desire to become more efficient.

This course will show you how to effectively use your handgun for real-world combat in a life-or-death situation. This includes:

• Fundamentals: grip, trigger control, sight alignment/picture, body position, etc.
• Ready positions and their use
• Holster skills
• Reloading
• Malfunction clearances

What you will need:

• A quality defensive handgun (a spare is not a bad idea)
• A quality duty or concealment holster
• Three magazines (minimum) with pouches or two speed-loaders (revolver use) with pouches. More magazines if you have a gun that holds less than 10rds (5 mags)
• Belt designed to support gear
• 800 rounds minimum
• Eye and ear protection
• Billed cap
• Clothing for weather conditions
• Water for hydration
• A folding or camp chair is recommended
• A concealing garment
• Good footwear

March 18 through March 20 the Airfield Shooting Club will be holding a NSSA registered skeet shooting competition. The competition will have four (4) categories (guns):

12 gauge
20 gauge
24 gauge
410 gauge

Doubles

There will be a cash prize for first place in each category.

The cost is $25 per gun.

In order to participate you must pre-register and be a member of NSSA.

On the day of the shoot you will need

1.    Cash or check for $25 for each gun. Checks are to be payable to Airfield Shooting Club

2.    NSSA membership card. You may join the NSSA at the shoot, the yearly membership is $30.00

3.    Classification Sheet.

The competition will allow mixed guns each day so you may compete on any of the 3 days.

Ties for Gun Championships will be decided by long runs from the front or back whichever is longer.

Good afternoon folks!

The board just finished its February board meeting and we are happy to announce that we think we have a path forward.  The board approved two contracts to conduct necessary range repair/maintenance.  The first contract we need to execute is for the removal of the lead from the berms.  This contract is expected to be awarded to a company, MT2 to facilitate.  The 2nd contract is to a company for the repair of the Short Range Berm and build up of the 50yd and 100m ranges.

The removal of lead is required before we can repair the berms for a number of reasons. The repair cannot start until the lead removal is complete. Because the Airfield Conference Center actually own the property we need our proposal to approved their Board.  The new Director of the Center was present at our meeting and will try to get it completed next week.  She is in agreement with the ASC Board’s direction.

We don’t have specific dates as this is just breaking.  We are hoping to have MT2 out in March to remove the lead.  We are hoping to know dates next week or perhaps early the following week.  It is our hope that once we have dates we can coordinate that with the repair company to come in shortly after that.  The repair contractor has indicated that it should take about 2 weeks to complete their work.

Please note that once the lead removal starts, the SRB, 50 and 100 will be closed until the repairs are complete.  We cannot use the berms between the lead removal and the repair.  We apologize in advance for the closure and the delay for getting to this point.  It has been painful.  The board believes that in the end, the range will be in much better condition resulting in a safer, environmentally compliant  and more enjoyable shooting experience.

Good Evening!  Saturday Feb 4th there will be a Tidewater Friends of NRA banquet at the Greenbrier Country Club in Chesapeake, VA.  Doors Open at 5:30.  If interested we need to get head counts to the Club by Tuesday.  Please go to the Friends of NRA website to purchase your ticket or better yet a Table (and get a gun!).  Our events average 1 gun for every 10 people.  This gives you a great odds to win a gun via raffle, game or live auction.  Dinner is included for your ticket price.

Virginia Friends of NRA just got done assinging grants to the amount of $405K.  The majority of our money goes to 4-H shooting programs, Boy Scout Camps and Councils, JROTC, youth shooting programs and even some college shooting teams.  We also have awarded money to police departments for ballistic vests for K9s and Eddie Eagle Costumes and more.  None of the money goes to salaries.  This is the non-profit side of the NRA so we can’t do any of the politics etc.  We simply raise money to help ensure our shooting sports remain alive.
