There will be a work party on Sunday April 6th, 9am to 3pmish, weather permitting to start the work on the ballistic wall repairs. We will be attaching 2x6s to both sides of the wall and boring a 1/2 hole thru the wall and using carriage bolts to secure the 2x6s. We will also do a general range cleanup and can always have a few members help make up the remaining target backers. We have some tools on hand but items we will need will be listed below. If time permits we may have to remove some gravel from inside the wall to repair a few troubled spots and then restore the gravel from the top of the wall, good ole bucket brigade possibly. small generators and extension cords, 6 or 8 foot or small extension ladders , 1/2 in drills, 1/2 in wood boring bits at least 12-14 in long(we have a few), impact guns and deep well sockets(I believe it is a 3/4in nut for the carriage bolt) hammer or mallets, chop saw or skill saw, chalk strings, laser level if anyone may have …

Emergency Range Closure

Due to extremely heavy rains, the road to the range is flooded.  To prevent any problems the Center is closing the road and locking the gate.  The center expects the water level to recede tomorrow and have a contract in place to have the culverts cleared and dredging performed to increase their efficiency,   Art Schoner   ASC President

March Rimfire Challenge – Metal Madness March 16th

Modified Metal Madness SRB – 50 yd Range is reserved for the next Rimfire Challenge – Modified Rimfire Steel Challenge for 22LR Pistols and/or Rifles only. This month’s challenge on Sunday, March 16th, is a speed shooting competition for 22LR pistols and rifles consisting of several modified stages with five steel targets. Competitors are scored solely by the time it takes to complete each stage by shooting five strings in order except the stop plate, which must be shot last. Throw out the worst score; the winner is the lowest overall time. The course of fire is designed to be completed by even the most inexperienced shooter using one 10-round magazine without reloading “on the clock.” I recommend a minimum of two magazines; I suggest five. This is a timed event designed to have 90% of the shooters hit 90% of the targets 90% of the time. It is open to all; even the young and old can easily participate. $5.00 entry fee for members, $10.00 for guests. I need help to set up the range at 7:00 am.  Safety Meeting 8:30-9:00 am. The safety meeting is mandatory to shoot the match. The match starts promptly at 9:00 am. Contact Match Director: Tom Sanford, [email protected]

ASC Pistol Class with Concealed Carry Information – March 22nd

On March 22, 2025, the Airfield Shooting Club (ASC) is hosting a Pistol Class including sections on the Law of Concealed Carry and Self Defense and Methods of Concealed Carry. The ASC Pistol Class is intended to provide hands-on orientation to the safe handling of handguns and includes both classroom and live-fire training. Our instructors teach both revolver and semi-auto sections in this class. In addition to the ASC Pistol Class, over an hour long session is scheduled with Timothy W. Drewry, a Virginia licensed attorney, who will discuss some of the legal aspects of carrying concealed firearms and self defense in Virginia. The attorney is a certified pistol instructor too and usually remains with the class until the very end so that he may answer questions which may arise. An additional segment of the course will include a brief discussion of some of the firearms appropriate for concealed carry and the holsters or other devices which might be suited for carrying a firearm concealed. Please note that the ASC Pistol Class, including the legal and concealed carry sections, is a non-NRA course, but it satisfies the handgun competency requirements set forth in Virginia Code § 18.2-308.02 (B).
