Shooting at Speed Class

February 15th, 2025  – Shooting at Speed.  We will be offering a class that will help you maintain the control of a gun as you increase speed of your shooting.  You will be taught some self diagnostic drills and techniques to help keep rounds on target.  Students should bring minimum 200 rounds.  This will be held after the board meeting from 1pm to 4 pm.  Students should bring a holster, magazine pouch (or big pockets) several magazines or speed loaders.  This class we will not be shooting from the holster, we are only using the holster to hold the gun rather than using tables. Cost is $40 for members and $50 for non-members. This will be held on the 100 m range so bring foot gear and clothing appropriate for the weather. A few Good Volunteers Needed

The Tidewater Friends of NRA Banquet is Feb 1st at the Greenbrier Country Club.  We could use a couple outgoing volunteers to help run the banquet.  In particular we could use some folks to help with running games (this involves taking money basically) or being a table host (showing guests where there reserved tables are, giving them a run down of the events and activities and running their bills to them at the end of the night.  Then a little help cleaning up at the end of the night.  You will be on your feet all or at least most of the night. This does count for service hours for ASC.  The required time would be from 4pm to 10pm. If interested please contact Scott Sampson at [email protected] Thank you!

Feb 1st – Tidewater Friends of NRA

The Tidewater Friends of NRA annual Banquet is Feb 1st at the Greenbrier Country Club in Chesapeake, VA.  This fun event raises money for grants to non-profits.  The money goes to non-profit organizations supporting the shooting sports like 4-H, Scouts, Veterans programs, and Women’s Programs.  We also have provided money to the police departments and college shooting teams.  Airfield Conference Center has benefited from several grants which have supported our club.  Would love to see some support from ASC members. You can buy individual tickets or you can purchase a Table of 8 (at different price points) which allows you to get a gun.  You can find out more about the event and purchase tickets at: https://www.friendsofnra.org/events/event-details?eventId=60851 Thank you!

New Range Rules!

ASC has published a new Range Rules document. A quick overview of the changes: Pg 10, Section I-G4 provided clarity on electrical conduit being ok to be used for supporting steel Pgs 10 and 11, have been revised to account for frangible ammo with steel.  Non-Jacketed frangible ammo is safer because the bullet is made of a compressed material that when it hits steel is breaks into particles like sand.  Please understand that there is Jacketed frangible ammo which has a jacket that will ricochet so it is NOT the same thing. Pg 19, RSO section – added additional guidance on how to run a range. Please take a look.  As always if you have any questions please feel free to give us a shout!

Gentle Shooters, We are almost back to practice season, and judging by some of the scores, the timing seems appropriate. But yet there is time to ponder a few things. Will Art ever shoot the match clean? Will Cort ever miss again. But one thing is for certain, after Tuesday at least for TV ads it will be truck month again. Finally, the election and all of the noise that goes with it will be over. Until then, consider that our last match of 2024 will be on Pearl Harbor Day, Saturday December 7th.
