Rimfire Steel Challenge – Sunday, Feb 18th!

Folks, our first steel challenge for Rimfire was a huge success last month and with the increasing member requests we just had to give it another try for this month. The Rimfire Steel Challenge will challenge even the best of our members on this Sunday, February 18th. The Steel Challenge is a speed shooting competition consisting of several modified stages using five to eight steel targets with one being the red stop plate. Competitors are scored solely by the time it takes to complete each stage.  The course of fire is designed to be completed by even the most inexperienced shooter using one 10-round magazine without the need to reload “on the clock.”  Suggest 22LR semi-auto pistols or rifles with 2 to 5 magazines, but bring what you have and we will make it an enjoyable event. There will be some firearms and ammunition available if you want to just come out and give it a try. Members – $5.00 & Guests – $10.00.  The range set up at 7:00 am, Safety Meeting 8:00-8:30 am, the safety meeting is mandatory to shoot the match. Match starts promptly at 9:00am.  Contact Match Director: Tom Sanford, email at [email protected]. The SRB/25 & 50m …

Calling all Bowling Pin Shooters Pin Pickup Next Tuesday

Gentle Shooters, We need your help. We will be buying our annual 100 cases of used bowling pins next Tuesday, February 13th at 7PM. They are heavy and bulky and they don’t fit in our Corvettes very well at all. We need able bodied shooters to assist with moving the pins from the bowling alleys to the warehouse where there are stored until that wonderful first Saturday of the month. Trucks and SUV’s are very helpful as well. We will be going to two bowling alleys and then to a storage facility in Virginia Beach to unload. Hopefully we will have enough people that we can go to both alleys at once and just meet at the warehouse. Please email me at [email protected] if you can help. Once I see how many people can help, I will tell you where to meet up. Thanks, Steven

ASC Basic Pistol Class – Feb 10th

On February 10, 2024, the Airfield Shooting Club (ASC) is hosting a Pistol Class including sections on the Law of Concealed Carry and Self Defense and Methods of Concealed Carry. The ASC Pistol Class is intended to provide hands-on orientation to the safe handling of handguns and includes both classroom and live-fire training. Our instructors teach both revolver and semi-auto sections in this class. In addition to the ASC Pistol Class, over an hour long session is scheduled with Timothy W. Drewry, a Virginia licensed attorney, who will discuss some of the legal aspects of carrying concealed firearms and self defense in Virginia. The attorney is a certified pistol instructor too and usually remains with the class until the very end so that he may answer questions which may arise. An additional segment of the course will include a brief discussion of some of the firearms appropriate for concealed carry and the holsters or other devices which might be suited for carrying a firearm concealed. Please note that the ASC Pistol Class, including the legal and concealed carry sections, is a non-NRA course, but it satisfies the handgun competency requirements set forth in Virginia Code § 18.2-308.02 (B). This course …

SRB – 50 yd Range is reserved for the next Rimfire Challenge – Modified Rimfire Steel Challenge for 22LR Pistols and/or Rifles only.  This is the first event of this type, should be fun!  We cancelled this event for December due to inclement weather so we decided to hold it on Sunday.  Might be cold on the range but it will be a sunny day, dress warm.  The Steel Challenge is a speed shooting competition for 22LR pistols and rifles consisting of several modified stages with five steel targets. Penalties occur for missed targets or shooting the red stop plate first.  The match winner is the one with the lowest overall time. The course of fire is designed to be completed by even the most inexperienced shooter using one 10-round magazine without the need to reload “on the clock.”  Recommend a minimum of 2 magazines, recommend 5 mags.  This is a timed event designed to have 90% …

Situational Awareness Training – 17 Jan @ 7 PM

“The best gun fight is one that you avoid”. That is the quote that we have heard and most of us live by.  The question is how to best make this happen?  You need to be aware of your surroundings.  Sometimes no matter how aware we are things happen.  Being aware of your surroundings and paying attention might give you the precious seconds you need to save yourself or your family. Scott Sampson will be providing free on-line training for the club on the 17th (This Wed).  This will contain information from part of USCCA’s Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals.  Learn about the Color Codes, what to look for, how to walk, where to walk, etc. We will also be discussing how to make plans ahead of time… “If this happens, I will …” In a world were seconds may mean the difference between life and death, learn how to take advantage of them. Join the video conference at 7pm by clicking on the link below: https://meet.google.com/drn-vgax-ptc

Friends of NRA Banquet – Feb 3

Fellow members, As an NRA member you may not be aware of the Friends of the NRA.  It is the portion of the NRA that does education and programs like (Women on Target, Eddie eagle and more), otherwise know as the Foundation.  Because this portion is non-profit, the foundation does not do any of the lobbing or politicking.  The Friends of NRA raises money to provide grants to non-profits.  No salaries are paid for from the money we raise, all profits go towards grants. In 2023 in the state of Virginia we provided grants to the following:     •4-H Shooting programs – $136,611     •Boy Scout Shooting Programs – $74,637     •Youth Shooting Programs- $86,889     •JROTC Shooting Programs- $32,597     •College Shooting Teams – $25,928     •Ranges/Education – $19,090     •LE & Veteran programs – $14,880 We can provide these grants because of money raised at banquets such as the one schedule by the Tidewater Friends of NRA.  The charity event involves games, raffles, and a live auction as well as dinner.  It is a great event serving a great cause.  You can purchase individual tickets for $100 each or you can …
