Help Needed Hauling Bowling Pins

Gentle Shooters, If you are a shotgunner, you know it is dove season. If you are a bowler, it is time for new leagues for the fall. When those start, tehy replace the existing pins with new ones. That makes it bowling pin season. They are available now and we will lose them if we don’t act. We need to haul 80 cases each from two bowling alleys. We would like to do it next Tuesday, September 10th at 7PM. I need volunteers with trucks or SUV’s to haul pins from Lynnhaven in Virginia Beach and Indian River in Chesapeake to our warehouse near Northampton Blvd and Diamond Springs Rd in Virginia Beach. We will award service hours for your effort. If you can assist, please contact me at [email protected]. Thanks, Steven

September Bowling Pin Match

Gentle Shooters, Your are cordially invited to attend the latest installment of how the pins fall at this Saturday’s ASC Bowling Pin Match. The match is Saturday, September 7th at 9:30 at the county class facility in stunning Wakefield, VA. Consider the fact that the club allows us one Saturday a month to take over the 50 yard range and shoot these delightedly absurd, fun reactive targets. Why you ask. Perhaps because we still can? I don’t know, but it is a lot of fun! If you have never done it, you owe yourself the experience at least once. If you haven’t done it in a while, ammo is available and somewhat reasonable, so why wouldn’t now be a good time time to drop by. Our match rules and directions are available at our fantastic web site www.airfieldshootingclub.org and specific comments and questions can be directed to our senior adjunct associate inspector general pinhead at [email protected]. See you at the match Steven

Dog Days Pin Shoot Results

Gentle Shooters, The Dog Days match lived up to its reputation this year. The shooting was fun and there were the exceptional moments. Kenny Hardee took out a pin in mid fall before it could knock two others flat and ruin his string. Taylor Strickland dominated with an entirely clean shoot on his way to a sweep of the five gun.  Our next match is September 7th. See you then. Results are below. Bowling Pin Match Results July 2024

This is reflected in our results. Our next match will be on balmy August 3rd. June Bowling Pin Match Results – Longtime Match Director sets new club record

Gentle Shooters, I am pleased to post the results of the June 2024 ASC Bowling Pin Match. We set a new record on the range today. Longtime match director Steven Gordon posted a combined aggregate five gun score of 536.01 seconds. That is nearly nine minutes of agonizing struggling on the firing line. When interviewed after the match Gordon was sanguine regarding the achievement. “There is actually a possible 1,300 seconds in a five string aggregate score. With a little more focus on poor trigger control and sight alignment I think we can push the number higher and we are really just beginning to explore jerking the follow through” he stated. For those of you who are less creative about missing the pins, your scores are reported below. Our next match is July 5th. May Bowling Pin Results – We are still not quite there yet…

Gentle Shooters, Far be it for me to stoke the continued fixation around the bowling pin community regarding the lowest elapsed time for a pistol caliber carbine string during a sanctioned competition. No, I am but your humble scribe. None other that our President ushered me into his home Saturday evening to tell me how it went down. Taylor Strickland had just set the club record for carbine only to have it broken the same day by Cory Allen. To paraphrase the ancient Bill Joel song, “If you want to make a hit you gotta make it fit, so they cut it down to 2.05.” Congratulations. Can 1.99 be far away? There was a bunch of other shooting, all of which is listed below. We will do it again June 1st. See you there. April Bowling Pin Match results

Gentle Shooters, I am a bit full of myself today. We even have a picture. We had a spectacular turnout for the inaugural Bowling Pin Match of 2024. We hosted 20 shooters, fired 296 relays, and finished before 2:30 in the afternoon. I have to shout out to Cory and Dan, who assisted with scoring and safety duties and were instrumental in keeping the match moving. It is clear to me that some of you were practicing and the scores reflect that. Congratulations to you guys.  The rest of us just showed up for fellowship, a good time and to heckle the good shooters. So, a very successful match. As you know, now that the season has started, we shoot matches because there is no time to practice. So I don’t want to see anything like the picture above that the range. PS. There will be no washouts for 2024. We intend to shoot steel pins in the short range berm on rain days! The next match is on Star Wars Day, May the Fourth be with you!
