June Bowling Pin Match Results – Longtime Match Director sets new club record

Gentle Shooters, I am pleased to post the results of the June 2024 ASC Bowling Pin Match. We set a new record on the range today. Longtime match director Steven Gordon posted a combined aggregate five gun score of 536.01 seconds. That is nearly nine minutes of agonizing struggling on the firing line. When interviewed after the match Gordon was sanguine regarding the achievement. “There is actually a possible 1,300 seconds in a five string aggregate score. With a little more focus on poor trigger control and sight alignment I think we can push the number higher and we are really just beginning to explore jerking the follow through” he stated. For those of you who are less creative about missing the pins, your scores are reported below. Our next match is July 5th. May Bowling Pin Results – We are still not quite there yet…

Gentle Shooters, Far be it for me to stoke the continued fixation around the bowling pin community regarding the lowest elapsed time for a pistol caliber carbine string during a sanctioned competition. No, I am but your humble scribe. None other that our President ushered me into his home Saturday evening to tell me how it went down. Taylor Strickland had just set the club record for carbine only to have it broken the same day by Cory Allen. To paraphrase the ancient Bill Joel song, “If you want to make a hit you gotta make it fit, so they cut it down to 2.05.” Congratulations. Can 1.99 be far away? There was a bunch of other shooting, all of which is listed below. We will do it again June 1st. See you there. April Bowling Pin Match results

Gentle Shooters, I am a bit full of myself today. We even have a picture. We had a spectacular turnout for the inaugural Bowling Pin Match of 2024. We hosted 20 shooters, fired 296 relays, and finished before 2:30 in the afternoon. I have to shout out to Cory and Dan, who assisted with scoring and safety duties and were instrumental in keeping the match moving. It is clear to me that some of you were practicing and the scores reflect that. Congratulations to you guys.  The rest of us just showed up for fellowship, a good time and to heckle the good shooters. So, a very successful match. As you know, now that the season has started, we shoot matches because there is no time to practice. So I don’t want to see anything like the picture above that the range. PS. There will be no washouts for 2024. We intend to shoot steel pins in the short range berm on rain days! The next match is on Star Wars Day, May the Fourth be with you! The Pins are Back

Gentle Shooters, Like the geese that invade my yard, April is when the bowling pins re infest the Airfield Shooting Club range in otherwise bucolic Wakefield, Virginia. And like the geese, the pins will be shot, only not with paint-balls. Yes Virginia, this Saturday, April 6th, the 18th season of Airfield pin shooting kicks off. Rules for the match have not changed and are still here. Set up will be at 9AM. We are looking for great weather and hey, all of your friends will be there. See you at the range. Steven

Calling all Bowling Pin Shooters Pin Pickup Next Tuesday

Gentle Shooters, We need your help. We will be buying our annual 100 cases of used bowling pins next Tuesday, February 13th at 7PM. They are heavy and bulky and they don’t fit in our Corvettes very well at all. We need able bodied shooters to assist with moving the pins from the bowling alleys to the warehouse where there are stored until that wonderful first Saturday of the month. Trucks and SUV’s are very helpful as well. We will be going to two bowling alleys and then to a storage facility in Virginia Beach to unload. Hopefully we will have enough people that we can go to both alleys at once and just meet at the warehouse. Please email me at [email protected] if you can help. Once I see how many people can help, I will tell you where to meet up. Thanks, Steven

December Bowling Pin Match results

Gentle Shooters, We draw to the close of another year of Bowling Pin shooting. Thanks to all of our competitors who come out month after month, set up, tear down, and support and even heckle our shooting community. I have to say that I am not worthy of this group that I find myself a part of. It is pleasure to know and get to shoot with each and every one of you. I learn something every time I set foot on the range with all of you. I hope to see all of you around the range this winter and certainly on Saturday, April 6 at 9:30 in the morning at the stunning ASC range for the next installment of how the pins fall.
