Since the SRB is closed while we make repairs to it, I wanted to make sure that people knew how to move the firing line closer to the berm.  If you are interested in shooting at closer distances than 25 yds, you are able to move the line forward of the existing firing line.  To do so there are a few things that you need to do: All parties on the line must agree to it (including the RSO). The RSO would call the line cold (ie all parties must case their firearms or holster them). RSO announce we are moving the line down range. Everyone moves to the location as designated by the RSO.  It is great if there is a cone or something that people can see but if not the RSO will do their best to maintain a straight line so no one is forward of someone else. At this point the RSO can all the line hot and commence shooting. It is imperative that any personnel that are moving behind the firing line have their guns cased or holstered.  There will be NO handling of firearms behind the Firing line only on the firing line. Good Afternoon Folks, Last Friday we inspected the Range Separation wall between the 50 and 100.  We found very disturbing indications that people had shot the wall.  Not only had they shot the wall, but one round impacted the very top row about 18″ from the end of the wall.  It would not surprise me that rounds left the 50 and landed on the 100m range!  I shouldn’t have to tell you how dangerous this is. I implore you to follow the rules and not shoot to the right of the white arrow on the 50 yd range!  Someone’s life may very well be at stake.  We did not make this rule for the heck of it.  There is a reason for it. While I was there we also noted that a 50 yard target frame was in the 25 yd position.  To be fair the target frames are not labeled, however the 25 yd target frames are much taller than the 50 yd target frames.  If you use a 50 yd target frame at the 25, you may very well be shooting the ground.  PLEASE be mindful of which target frames you are using and where your rounds are …

We are offering a Shotgun fundamentals class January 14th  for 8 people.  It will be taught by Dale Mullin. We plan on offering an advance class covering skeet and trap at some point in the near future and this class will be required to attend those classes.  If you don’t take this class you must be proficient with a shotgun and have participated somewhat regularly in shotgun sports (trap, skeet, 5-stand, sporting clays or hunt). What to Bring:  4 boxes of shells with a shot size of 7-1/2 or 8. A shotgun. Keep in mind that a home defense shotgun is probably not the best choice. A semi-automatic or over and under field guns are desired. A pump action shotgun can be used but you will be at a disadvantage in the game of skeet. After careful consideration, the board has decided to close the Short Range Berm (SRB) until further notice due to safety concerns.  The wear and tear on the berm has finally exceed the allowable safety margins and we must close it until repairs can be made.  The board is currently looking to repair the berm while performing some improvements.  The board was working on some solutions, but this has accelerated the effort significantly. The intent is to reach out to some contractors on Monday, while we draft up specifications for our needed scope of work.  The intent is to meet with folks in the beginning of Dec some time to walk through the modifications desired to establish quotes.  After that we are at the mercy of the contractor’s schedule once we select them. We apologize for the inconvenience, but it is in all of our interest to stay safe and be a responsible gun range.

Good afternoon folks, We have a near term need that the Center just asked us to support.  They need 2 RSOs for shotgun.  At least one needs to be familiar with Trap and the other familiar with Skeet. The group is the Peninsula Community Chapel on Oct 1st from 10am-12pm. Accidents or attacks can happen at anytime.  We do our best to be safe, but to quote Forest Gump “Stuff Happens” and we need to be prepared.  We have an extraordinary opportunity for our club to help its members be prepared.  The club has purchased and installed an AED and emergency tramua kits at the club.  But do you know how to use them? If not, this is the class for you!  We have coordinated a trauma medical class for you!  HM2 Ricardo Khaleel who teaches combat medics, is offering us an introductory Tactical Combat Casualty Care Class.  No, you are not going to get a certification, but you will walk away with critical safety knowledge which you can use to save lives. In this 1.5 to 2 hour class we will cover the standard trauma care taught to our nations warfighters.  This will include how to identify and treat various wounds and conditions, AED Basics, and trauma Kit familiarization. Our member Brandon Jantzen is helping to coordinate HM2 Khaleel who works and lives out of the Little Creek Amphibious Base area so we are keeping the classroom in this area.  Another member John Lowe is offering the use of …
