Swamp Shooters (Youth Shooting Program)
The primary goal of 4-H Shooting Education is “to enhance development of self-concept, character and personal growth through safe, educational and socially acceptable involvement in shooting activity.”
Swamp Shooters provides an opportunity to “promote the highest standards of safety, sportsmanship, and ethical behavior.” To teach these standards, instructors use shooting sports to help instill responsibility in participants who range in age from 9 to 19.
There are currently four disciplines offered to the Airfield Swamp Shooters;
- Small Bore Rifle
- Skeet / Trap
Swamp Shooter has certified instructors that have collectively, over a century of shooting and 4-H experience for the participants to draw from.
Swamp Shooters meets on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
There is no cost to join, however, depending on your discipline (e.g. shotgun, rifle, etc.) you may need to have safety equipment such as eye and ear protection.
Shooting sports will require the purchase of ammunition (.22 Long Rifle or 20 Gauge). For those who might not have a rifle or shotgun, there are club firearms which can be used.
In the spring and late summer, Swamp Shooters can participate in the 4-H District and State Shooting matches.
There is also an opportunity to participate in the 4-H/NRA Shooting Education Camp held in August.
